Pop Up Awnings Are for More Than Just RV’s These Days

by Allen on July 6, 2010

Typically when people hear the phrase pop up awnings they think of things like an old-fashioned camper or RV. Even worse, they can conjure up less attractive images like a trailer park. While it’s true that instant awnings are a mainstay of the recreational vehicle market; these days they are used for so much more. In fact thanks to new construction and design techniques you can find these awnings replacing the more traditional and elegant patio covers typically found on a home.

One of the biggest draws of the pop-up canopy style awning is the fact that it is just so easy to use. Once the initial install is over you can go from fully retracted to fully extended awning in a matter of seconds. In fact the only thing holding you back in terms of time is the strength of your own muscles and your ability to operate the unrolling mechanism. Even this is made a moot point by the modern motorized awnings that literally do all the work for you.

So it makes sense that you would find a pop up awning on the porch; but you might also be interested to know that they are used in place of gazebos as well. This is particularly true for locations that require temporary shelter in the form of a freestanding structure. Obviously, one option would be to build a gazebo; however that’s definitely cost prohibitive especially when you consider how inexpensive a fabric awning is.

Hopefully after reading this you can stop thinking of pop up awnings as being nothing more than an accessory found in a traveling RV caravan. These awnings deserve a lot of respect for their versatility and widespread availability. Granted no one is saying put their names up in lights on marquees however they do deserve more respect than they receive. Things that genuinely make life easier, better and more affordable should be celebrated and shared with others. So don’t keep the secret of pop up awnings to yourself; spread the word and share the idea of adding these instant shade creators with your friends. Chances are they will be just as excited to add one to their home or yard as you were.
